My past has caught up with me!

So today, after visiting Rancho, my class (just me, Eden, Victoria, Earth, Jonny and Chris), along with several members of the class of 2009 (Nhi, Dolly, Soo, Erica (late), Mimi, Thomas, Lylan, Christina, Richard, Tuan, Catherine, Michael, Kimberly) went to Rancho to give some inspirational words of advice to the high school students – although I’m pretty sure we weren’t that inspirational… in retrospect, we probably could have phrased what we were saying a little better. Oh well – at least they get extra credit!

Along the way, we also visited Durand / Chau / Pham Vu / Lockhart / Blandford / Schirmer / Murray, and it was quite a reunion. Durand warned me to “Stay away from his daughters” jokingly of course, and Lockhart said she was “thinking about me last night”. Man, these teachers. Half of them choose not to add me on facebook, haha. They were glad to see most of us (I think…). But whatever if they weren’t. What was quite strange is that two girls from Blandford’s class came up to me asking for help with Civics… and I did… suddenly they asked “Are you John?”. And I was like “WTF”. Apparently, Ms. Dand-Issellin somehow got ahold of my civics study guides and redistricted copies to her class (despite the various racist comments I placed on them, as well as the obvious blatant COPYRIGHTS) LOL. (beaners, etc….). And then we went to Mae’s cafe after with Mimi/Thomas/And Carmen, who is now happily in a sorority.

In terms of what’s been going on the first week of winter break, I’ve just been chilling at home most of the time. Some noteworthy things this week include talking to Kennedy & Tony about cars for an hour, going with Jose & Tony to In&Out, and popping in George’s House for a visit. Subsequently, I also ate at souplantion on Sunday as well as the mall. On Monday I went to Ross & Target, on Wednesday I went to the block, and on Thursday I went to Westminster Mall and Fry’s. WHY? Secret Santa with my siblings. WHAT FOR? Fun!. And I might have to do White Elephant if I go to Jonny’s Party next Tuesday. Oh well!

So, I’m trying to rethink life a little bit, but probably not in the way you would think. SOOOOO, what exactly does one need in life? According to the Sims bar, here’s all you would need:

So, if I have all 8 of these needs, I should be perfectly content, right? I guess that’s the logistics of it, but I’m not able to base my entire life on a computer game. Although, I must say – I am full right now (Hunger), I’m laying down (comfort), I feel relatively clean (Hygiene), I don’t need to go the restroom (Bladder), I feel like I can do anything right now (Energy), I have room to move around (except technically I don’t have a room at home, haha). I’m somewhat Social, to the point where I feel content knowing the amount of people I do, and communicating with them when I feel like it. Maybe fun is the part in my life, I need to expand on; cause I do feel most of the time at home. LOL, but relaxing is somewhat fun.
If the Sims is indeed correct, I need to acquire more skills to sustain a healthier and stronger lifestyle.
Mechanical? None. Cooking? Do Spam and Rice cook? Charisma? I guess you could say I have somewhat charisma, but I could improve my public speaking in front of public crowds and COULDDDD participate more in section. Logic? Well, I took an introduction to logic course in college, but that didn’t really improve much. Philosophy is general is all logistics, so i guess I could always try to improve that? Body? I guess I’ll start exercising more next quarter? Creatively? Hrm, I would say I’m pretty creative… After all, I did write ten books, and several movie scripts…
But anyway, let’s not base our life on video games! Maybe I could use my courses to redefine the structure of my life. Using Phillapa Foot’s Basic Needs Argument in order for a good life, we need to satisfy 6 conditions:
1) Ability to satisfy hunger/ thirst (CHECK!)
2) Support of family/community (CHECK!)
3) That one is not driven to work far beyond one’s capacity (CHECK! EH&S is a joke job)
4) That one has the ability to rest (CHECK! I’m pretty sure I’m resting right now)
5) One has high hopes for the future (CHECK! Fox!)
6) One is not overwhelmed by pain, nausea, or depression (CHECK!)
In essence, I should consider my life a good one, ESPECIALLY in comparison to the world around me, when there are people with much bigger problems – starving kids in Africa, Tiger Woods, etc.
Still, I can’t help but wonder how I could improve my life. But beginning January 2010, I have a long list of resolutions I wish to follow to perhaps, be an overall better well-balanced person.
But first, here’s my rough draft of my schedule for next quarter:
It’s definitely jam-packed. Of course, I’m not going to follow it step by step. For instance, logistically speaking, if I have less homework one day, I’m obviously not gonna “do homework” in the time allowed then there’s no reading or writing /studying to be done. I’ve decided to start exercising this year, and thus it’s added in there. If I pursue learning a musical instrument that’ll be added in there later. If I deem it necessary to not sleep to do something else, that’s okay too. Things that I HAVE TO DO starting next quarter in the schedule though are: exercise, do homework, and go to meetings. Obviously, I can sacrifice sleep as well as work hours to accomplish this. I gave myself time to “Go meta” to think about the big picture of my life every week, so I can see where I’m at in life, and where I want to go from that point. I also give myself blogging time so I can consistently update this blog every week starting next quarter. Recreation refers to anything fun.
And yes, all my classes are on Tuesdays & Thursdays, with one discussion on Wednesday. Here’s their class descriptions. And Technically speaking, I’m still waitlisted for COSF100:
