September 2010 Updates

What. the. I’m going to be totally lame right now and quote a Green Day song to reiterate this blog post:

Summer has come and passed. The innocent will never last. Wake me up when September ends.

Guess what… September has ended! And what a strange month it has been. For one reason or another this month has been loaded with event after event after event. Maybe it’s because my summer session 2 finals ended on the 2nd day of September. Maybe it’s because ICRA training encompassed virtually half the month. Or maybe, just maybe it’s because I only really had one week of school thus far. All of these combinations must have made the month what it was, really long, but at the same time, really fun. Let’s have a look:

Good times. At some point my month’s going to be too jam-packed that I won’t be able to fit it into a calender like so, but I will at least finish out 2010 with October, November, and December calender updates.

For some reason or another, I never shared my schedule online but here it is, tentatively at least:

Not much really going on. I dropped Active Students for Kids this year because I felt the program wasn’t really working for me. It was fun, but it wasn’t challenging, and waking up at 8am didn’t seem rational if you look at my entire schedule as a tentative whole. P90x is going well, except I really for one reason or another hate doing Yoga. It’s too long and semi-pointless in my personal opinion anyway. Work, PAW, WAVE, ICRA, & NRHH is fine as usual, and I should keep myself relatively busy since I’m one of very few third years living on campus still.

In case I didn’t explain, my classes are: History of the Atomic Bomb, History of Popular Science, Communication & Disability, & Mobile Communications. I’m really enjoying all my classes this quarter. Both history classes are taught by William Clark, and he is quite an interesting and captivating lecturer that makes me actually want to go to class (not that I ever ditch class anyway….). Furthermore, I’m learning quite a bit of nuclear physics in the Atomic Bomb so maybe I can communicate to smug science majors how great science is. (As an off-topic point, I understand why science majors think they’re so great – they’re going to contribute to their scientific discoveries, influencing society as a whole. But by looking down on any liberal arts major, they’re just reiterating their arrogance. Not everyone in the world is going to be a scientist, a researcher, or a doctor, so they really should keep their opinions to themselves). I’m not looking forward to an in-class presentation in Disability & Communications, but the professor is really nice. And Barry Brown from Mobile Communications is just an amazing lecturer.

Aside from classes, TV is going great. Glee is amazing as always. Rachel Berry in a school girl uniform? Britney Spears! “You are the only exception!” by Rachel Berry was better than Hayley William’s version. The Event was actually relatively interesting (I’ve only seen the pilot thus far). Now, it’s no replacement for 24. The only thing keeping the show going is the mystery element; if they start developing the characters more the show would be more captivating in my opinion. No Ordinary Family, as I’ve already seen from Comic Con was also really good, but Glee will beat it out every week in the same timeslot. I also enjoyed Lone Star but FOX already cancelled it due to low ratings.

The weather. This week the weather has been super bipolar. From a massive heat wave to rain and thunderstorms by the end of the week (I prefer the latter), San Diego you are strange but I still love you. But in my heart I also miss Orange County and hope to go home sometime this month.

Finally, living on campus. It’s definitely much different from last year, but I feel like change for the most part is a good thing. Benefits of living on campus: Close to everybody, except my friends off campus…. No cooking needed. & convenience. AMUL, KUNAL, & STEVEN! It does get a tad bit annoying saying to everyone that I’m a third year though and them going “Oh, are you an R.A.?” or “Oh, are you a Regents Scholar”. NO! and No!. And when I tell them I’m ICRA VP, they just ask me what ICRA is, so in the end I feel like that’s pretty much a hassle in and of itself. Seriously though, I would give anything to stay on campus. I understand why most people want to go off campus though – it’s cheaper, and freedom. But really, what freedom do I really need? I don’t party, so that’s really out of the picture. But when the time comes I’ll decide what my fourth year plans for housing are :).

I WILL SAY I MISS JOHN TORRES, HOWARD, and JONATHAN CHOU THOUGH 🙂 OH, and LEANDRO, even though I never really lived with him last year. OH, and the girls! <24. BYES! 🙂
