Day 50: Rain Sprinkles

February 19th, 2011

Today, I had a massive headache. It kind of helped to ruin what would have otherwise been a great day. I still had fun though. I woke up rather late (having been up till 4:30 AM the previous night), and conversed with Amul for a bit. Geetha came over, and after going to CV, we watched Amul play video games and watched some terrible CNN/Foxnews for a while. We waited for Rashika to come, and she was an hour late as usual. We continued watching a bit of news, and watched an episode of 24. We then went to CV again so Rashika could get food, and we went back and watched half of Inception. The reason why we only watched half of it was because Rashika was busy patrolling the skies to see if it was still raining (because our original plan was to go to Sprinkles). It stopped raining during the midpoint of the movie, and we thus bused to Sprinkles accordingly.

When we got there, my huge headache started, as we waited in line. It was kind of rude of them to make us move when it started raining again, and then make us move back within the line when it stopped. Fortunately for me, I saw Lauren Adams (who works there), and she gave me a free cupcake as her shift ended. She’s so sweet. Anyway, by the time we all reached the front of the line we tried the mystery password to get free cupcakes. “Surprise!” was ushered, and accordingly we got 3 free cupcakes. We left immediately after, and took refuge at price center for a bit when it was raining super hard. It was funny, because my picture of the day was of the three mystery cupcakes it was got from Sprinkles, and ironically it was sprinkling all day (with rain) on and off again. We went back to my place, decided NOT to finish Inception, watched 4 episodes of 24 (Rashika unfortunately looked up everything that would happen that season already…), before heading to Earl’s to get to Dinner before the end of the night. By the end of the night I was super exhausted… I ate my Hot Pockets, did some “gaming” for my Video Game Studies class, and immediately crashed shortly thereafter.

An Iowa high school wrestler who became the first girl to win a state tournament match when her opponent refused to compete against her has been eliminated from the tournament.
Cedar Falls freshman Cassy Herkelman lost her quarterfinals match 5-1 Friday morning and was pinned in a consolation match later in the day.
Herkelman and Ottumwa High School sophomore became the first girls to qualify for the tournament in its 85-year history.
Herkelman’s favored first-round opponent defaulted rather than face her because he says wrestling a girl would conflict with his religious beliefs. If his reasons are sound, then I don’t think it’s up to up to cry “sexism”.
On February 19th, 1942, President Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066, a controversial World War II policy with lasting consequences for Japanese Americans. The document ordered the “removal of resident enemy aliens” from parts of the West Coast vaguely identified as “military areas.” This is considered one of the worst moments in U.S. history, and I agree. FDR was not a saint as everyone thinks he was. His New Deal programs didn’t work as much as the U.S.’s entry into World War II did.

P.S.: “I know that I promised to take care of you and protect you… but I’m at a crossroads. Right now, the best way… the only way… to do that is to let you go. I hope one day you can understand. I hope one day you can forgive me. I love you with all my heart. And I always will.” – Jack Bauer.
