Day 93: Uninsidious Day

April 3rd, 2011

Merriam Webster defines the word “insidious” as awaiting a chance to entrap : treacherous. As a direct antonym to the day’s events, today was subsequently an UNinsidious one. It was rather, a smooth and nice day full of lots of studying (less than I had hoped, but still a decent amount). I woke up, went to eat lunch with Amul at CV, before heading to Geisel to study with Geetha. After doing so for a bit, we ate at Pines for dinner before ultimately heading to her place to study a little bit more. Admist all this studying (or lack of) we would write wonderful OTMS, plan to watch the movie “Insidious”, and talk about various events trangressing in our current lives. Rashika would come over, as we ultimately bus’ed over to the Ralph’s Shopping Area as I snapped a picture. Inside Ralph’s we did nothing, but I encountered Earth (the person, not the planet), and Robert Tran (ROBERT TRAN!), as well as another guy who recognized me but I didn’t recognize him…. Whoops…. We would go to Starbucks for Geetha to get a drink, before heading to the theater to watch INSIDIOUS. As I ate a Hot Dog we watched one of the most terrible movies of our decade. It was so bad, it was funny. Oh well. Not worth 10 bucks, but still quite an entertaining movie. We all walked back (the shuttles stopped running at this point), and ultimately called it a night as I went back to study.

History
On April 3rd, 1968, Civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “mountaintop” speech to a rally of striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tenn., less than 24 hours before he was assassinated. 🙁
News
Political ideologies and government spending realities are speeding trains headed toward a nasty crash in Washington this week barring a compromise between Republicans in the House and Senate Democrats aligned with President Barack Obama in the battle to contain America’s soaring debt Failure to reach a deal for the rest of this budget year, which ends on Sept. 30, could lead to a partial shutdown of the government when spending authority expires at midnight on Friday. It is unclear which side would absorb public blame and anger for such a dramatic turn of events. But there was likely to be political damage, and mainstream members of both parties say they want to avoid a shutdown. We’ll see what happens.

P.S.: Constellation
