Day 99: Admit Day

April 9th, 2011

There are many stories to tell about Admit Day, an annual UCSD Tradition. In my senior year of high school I went with my friend (and future roommate) Howard as we went exploring Warren with his parents, checking out the apartments, us buying stuff at the bookstore, and me ultimately being the catalyst for his decision to go. Flash-forward to my freshman year of college, where I walked outside of my residence hall apartment and saw two admit girls ask me if they could see my residence hall “Stewart”, for exploratory purposes. Unfortunately for them, and an Indian kid and his parents who later joined us in the elevator, my suitemates had been partying the day before and had not cleaned up. Subsequently, I guess you could say they got the “full college experience”, but I really hope that Indian kid’s parents weren’t too shocked by what they ended up seeing. Flash-forward to sophomore year, where I ended up helping PAW table. Now, in my Junior Year of college I ended up doing the same thing – walking to Kunal’s car with Amul to get the donuts, and meeting Alex & Rosario at the designated table in Warren Mall. While there, several PAW members would join us in tabling efforts as the day progressed – which include Lauren, Amy, & Jon Kaslow. I would see and talk to various persons as the tabling process proceeded which include but are not limited to Nick, Tyler, T.Saw, Ragavi, and Adam Powers. Kaslow would tell me the prices of various acts for SunGod… if Muse were to come, would cost 630k. Tyler would eventually get vital information and explain why Students First is a fail slate – because they brought up 50 grievances at the last minute to the election commitee. After the election commitee ruled Alyssa and Ryan to be guilty and forced to send out a formal apology, Student First appealed the decision to the Judicial Board…. which… is appointed by Wafa, who strongly supports the Students First slate. Conflict of interest? Maybe. It’ll be interesting to see/hear what happens at the meeting tomorrow though. Anyway, tabling was interesting as I got a variety of free donuts.

After we were done, Amy, Rosario, Alex, Amul and I went to my apartment where we watched some television (some terrible show on Disney Channel), before Alex left to pick up Jake at the airport. While me, Amy, Rosario, & Amul would bus over to Five Guys (across the street from UTC through the 201), Alex would drive Jake and Matt, and Tyler would bike over. While there, I saw the coolest soda dispenser machine ever, although I chose mere water to come out of the machine. While there I saw Adam and Jessica eating lunch, and we all ate together after they left, with Tyler’s friend and ACCB President Carl. We talked about vast discussions that ranged from segregation in the United States to why the hell we didn’t choose to include bringing Phil’s to the Flush the John slate. Shrug! After literally two hours of talking, me, Amul, Rosario, & Amy bused back. I ended up watching about half of Citizen Cane, and falling asleep – I’ll have to rewatch it tomorrow to truly understand and appreciate its value though (for my Film Studies class). I kind of like it so far though, I’ll have to pay closer attention though.

For dinner, Lauren drove me, Geetha, and Bee-John to Pho T Cali where I took a picture of the cool decorations there. Delicious stuff ;D! When we were done we headed back to my place where we talked a bit, and played Bang together, Bee-John somehow ultimately winning. After Lauren left we played another round of Bang, and then played the funniest game of Monopoly ever. So much cheating was involved, and even though Bee-John was supposed to end up winning, Amul overpowered him through my trading of all my properties to Amul even after I bankrupted on Bee-John’s space. I’m pretty sure that’s a blatant violation of the rules. After they all left, the night was over. BOO! Studying tomorrowwwwww!

History
On April 9th, 2003, Iraqis turn on symbols of their former leader, pulling down a statue of Saddam Hussein and tearing it to pieces as US tanks roll into the centre of Baghdad. YAY.
