Day 173: The Disney Store & Mass Confusion

June 22nd, 2011

Today was marked by a variety of different events and activities. First and foremost, I woke up in the morning (but not yet completely adjusted to my morning routine). I went to EH&S where I worked for several hours scanning and shredding documents, and subsequently consumed a hot pocket I cooked in the microwave. It burnt cause I left it in there for too long. I bused on quickly to fashion valley, where I made a pit stop at the Disney Store. While there I played with the huge movie screen they had pressing the subsequent button that looks like an Ipod on the right to play movie clips. I subsequently played clips from Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas (Colors of the Wind), the Hannah Montana Movie (The Hoedown Throwdown), and Toy Story (You’ve got a friend in me). It was rather entertaining to sit there and relax and take pictures before I moved to the 928 to bus to work.

It was day two of training at Think Together, and it was okay as the Waigenheim site stuck together. We had lots of fun together as we split into science and math groups: me, Berkelee, Melvin, & Torrie being in the math group. We were perpetually confused given 20 lesson plans, to only be able to teach for 8 days. Lots of people asked about the finalized schedule but there were no specific details given, since each middle school is different. Hopefully we’ll get more details by Friday, I’m crossing my fingers. The second half of the training involved building a catapult to project water beanies to other teams to get them hit. It was fun for a bit, as we continued getting advice on how to provide instructions, and “debrief” immediately after an activity.

Afterwards, I went home, watched some South Park with Tyler, picked up Julia from Von’s, and then watched a series of TV shows and movies at my place. We watched Breaking Bad, How I met your Mother, and The Hangover. GOOD TIMES. We also ate a ton of pizza ordered specifically from Dominoe’s. I want to continue Breaking Bad and How I met your mother at some point since we didn’t get past the pilot. After Julia left, the night inevitably ended.

History
On June 22nd, 1933, Hitler bans all other parties making Germany a one political party country, the National Socialist party is the only party that now exists in Germany. This followed a number of other changes in 1933 including creation of the German Secret State Police (Gestapo) and the banning of Trade Unions. The death penalty was declared for anti fascists. SCARY!
News
President Barack Obama’s decision to begin military withdrawals from Afghanistan is welcome, but the scale of the withdrawal is insufficient. The president announced that 33,000 troops will be coming home by the end of next summer, but he offered no change to the underlying military strategy. By keeping most U.S. troops in place beyond 2012, the president has guaranteed that the war will continue. WHAT A NOOB AND FAILED PRESIDENT.

P.S.: CUTE
