Today was my first official day of teaching. And let’s just say I learnt today I feel extremely comfortable in a classroom environment. Despite all the awkward moments in my elementary, middle, and high school days in the classroom, let’s just say I have evolved from being a passive player to a more aggressive participant. If I had to relive those days, I would have been more attentive and more participative, as opposed to the shy kid I once was. I bused to campus in the morning, realizing starting right now (the first day of summer session), the buses are now super crowded. It was so sad cause just last week they were empty, so it makes me wonder how super crowded they are going to be during the school year. SAD TIMES. Anyway, I spent the morning at EH&S, as usual, and then bused straight to Mira Mesa using the 921 to Waigenhaim. It was a good thing I left early, cause during the middle of the bus ride, the bus doors suddenly broke and were jammed for literally 10 minutes. I walked from the bus stop to one side of the school, realizing the fence was closed. Subsequently, I bumped into Melvin who drove himself and me to the other side of the school. We met, got briefed quickly, and then was thrown into the chaos that was lunch period.
Lunch period was relatively brief, as I overcame a group of students who were disgusted by their lunch. Granted, I would be too, but at least the food was free and subsidized by local farmers (not really). Because no schedules were specifically assigned to us, me and all the rest of the program leaders all day had no idea what to do, where to go, and which groups we were overseeing. Subsequently when the site coordinator told us to “rotate”, we would just choose a random group, mixing up the order of subsequent classes in the day. Some students in fact were even taught math twice, ruining the entire schedule for everyone.
First period: I taught film. Group 6. These kids were relatively nice, but I was saddened by my inability to use the Promethean board correctly. MAN, these kids are spoiled. My ghetto ass schools never got any of this nice shit. Whiteboard and chalk was all we got. So sad. Anyway, these kids were somewhat behaved, and made me relatively confident in my ability to oversee kids.
Second period: I taught film yet again. Group 7. This time, I used a different room and was able to project the Charlie Chaplin clip onto the screen. However, there were two kids that misbehaved very much so, and subsequently I called them out for it. SO EXCITING, MY FIRST CONFRONTATION <24.
Third period: For some reason, I didn’t even get to switch kids, so I got group 7 again, and this time, it was time for Fulcrum – outdoor team building activities. I combined with Torrie’s Group 3, and these kids together produced a vast exodus of chaos. Many of them broke many rules while playing, while many of the girls used the excuse “I’m tired” or “I have a stomach-ache”, essentially faking injuries in an attempt to avoid doing anything. It was sad, but I tried my best to get them to play “monkey tag”, and “construction recreation” successfully. Somewhere in between this period I was confused and had to give them all a snack break, but we didn’t get any schedules so I had no idea what to do.
By the end of the day, everyone got released, and we didn’t even get time to debrief or address the challenges faced with our site coordinators. Subsequently, all the program leaders came together and manually decided which classes were going to teach the next day. Afterwards, I bused home, using the sandwich container box Lauren got me as the picture of the day.
I bused back to UCSD, where I met up with Geetha at Geisel. There, I jizzed over the Internet usage, and afterwards we bused back to my place to cook. Let’s be honest – Geetha did most of the cooking, but I did my best to try to help as well. We ate spaghetti with apple chicken sausages. YUM? Afterwards we went to Von’s where I broke my Von’s Virginity *(having not been in the Nobel Von’s until this present date). I got a nice and sexy looking Von’s card, as we walked back to my apartment. Afterwards, I bused Geetha back to my apartment and we spent the rest of the night hanging out.

| On June 27th, 1857, A report by the British Medical Research Council found a direct link between smoking and lung cancer, causing the British government will launch an educational campaign to raise awareness on the dangers of smoking. Tobacco firms who sell cigarettes have rejected the findings saying they are merely a ‘matter of opinion’. LIES YOU EVIL COMPANIES, ALL LIES. |

| President Barack Obama will hold a previously unscheduled news conference on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. ET in the East Room of the White House, spokesman Jay Carney announced. The news conference comes as Obama faces mounting unhappiness over the U.S. economic performance, as well as controversy over his refusal to seek congressional authorization for U.S. participation in the NATO-led military campaign in Libya.
