Day 181: Halfway Point

June 30th, 2011
It appears that I have reached the halfway point of the year, and subsequently, the halfway point of my 365 project. It’s been a blast updating everyone about my boring, boring life. Today was no exception to this paradigm of boringness. I woke up early in the morning prepared to go to work (skipping breakfast since my milk somehow got really hard), but instead I decided to go to price center to use the computers. I was really not in the mood to work and was still super sleepy. Soon thereafter, I bused to Wangenheim for Day 4 of my ThinkTogether shift.

Lunch period was interesting to say the least, considering all I did during this time was talk to a group of girls who felt the need to tell me about their life problems (regarding boys, and advice). They called me Dr. Phil even though I told them I wasn’t a counselor. They shared lots of unnecessary details including how far they went with boys, and how they enjoyed chasing after them. I just sat there confused for a majority of the time, being somehow entangled in their childhood gossip. It’s nice that they could count on me to give them advice though – regardless of how bad it might be. I told them to make the boy jealous by hanging out with other boys. Even though I told all of the students they could call me by my first name, they still somehow manage to call me Mr. John….

I taught all the same lessons I taught yesterday, minus the Math lesson which I mixed up a little to make their lives more interesting. During Period 1, I taught Group 3 Film, and they were especially rowdy, and unable to follow directions, but they tried their best to coordinate an appropriate dance routine. One group of kids was very funny though because they performed their dance to the Oompa Loompa song. FUNNY! During Period 2, I taught Group 2 Math, making them play a game of Jeopardy to improve their math vocabulary skills. I think it went pretty well. I got in trouble for letting two girls go to the bathroom unsupervised, but oh well. Afterwards the same gossip girls from that group gave me a hug, showing me how good of a program leader I am. It’s a good thing I can entertain these kids, otherwise I think they’d end up hating me…. I taught Period 3 Film yet again, and they had a lot of fun dancing to Firework and Hello. For some reasons I listen to the same type of music as these kids, minus all the gangster and hip hop music. SHRUG. After all was up, it was time to go.

I bused back to campus meeting Geetha at Geisel in an effort to catch up on internet usage. We hung out for a bit as I came and went eating Panda Express for dinner, ultimately busing back to Geetha’s place while seeing Lauren on the bus. We spent the rest of the night talking and dissecting details of our past as well as attempting to try to hang out on the roof (and failed), and hanging out at the Internet Cafe, where there was free WIFI (that didn’t work). I subsequently took a picture for my day.

History
On June 30th, 1936, The book Gone with the Wind is Published. In 1939 Gone With The Wind was made into the Oscar Winning Film . Never read it, shrug.
News
It was no joke Thursday at the Federal Election Committee hearing as Comedian Stephen Colbert gained approval to start his “superPAC” by a 5-1 “media exemption vote.” But in the crowd outside the FEC’s headquarters following the vote it was clear the host of “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central had a straight-faced delivery and this matter of election fundraising regulation had some laughing – and throwing money. “Moments ago the Federal Election Committee made their ruling,” Colbert said to cheers, “And ladies and gentlemen I’m sorry to say, we won!”. FUNNY.
