Day 187: EGADS, Internet!

July 6th, 2011
The first half of the day was very typical, as I went to EHS, and ThinkTogether shortly thereafter. The bus driver kept hitting red lights and came late though, so I was super worried I would reach the Waigenheim campus not on time. I ran though, just as I did in high school when I ran to the lunch line like a nerd, and subsequently arrived on time. Lunch was chill as more gossip came (me finding out the girl the other girl’s ex likes now has a boyfriend – he asked her out yesterday). It somehow came full circle though because the guy that asked that girl out happened to be best friends with the girl who likes the ex. So basically the popular girl is liked by two guys, both liked by the two girls that gossiped to me. I also talked to a ton of schoolchildren about kid shows, such as Arthur, Dragon Tales, Pokemon, and Power Rangers. HOORAHHHH! Afterwards, was Mad Science, which was hella’ fun, and entertaining to watch. It was annoying supervising kids that kept running around and throwing goo at one another, but other than that I was relatively amused. For period 2, I taught group 8 math, and for the first time I was confident in my teaching abilities. I somehow got the whole class to passively take a test, without anyone or anything major disrupting it. Afterwards, I allowed them to play Math Jeopardy under the guise of being able to win tickets. In an effort to keep the kids under control, I gave the bad kids power making them team captains, and also took away points from teams whenever they talked out of turn. It was epic mind control and it worked. For film class I did the same thing as yesterday, but with a different group (Group 6), and they were super kind and nice after all.

Directly afterwards I proceeded to Geetha’s place and we talked for a relatively long time, before I headed home, where I WAS SUPER HAPPY TO ENCOUNTER what I’ve been missing for two weeks: INTERNET. It’s a super good thing because Big Brother returns in two days as well. I talked to Lauren for a bit who came out of her room, and then came with her to Los Primos so she could pick up some dinner. I took a picture of one of the video box games there, because it reminded me of Amul. SO SAD. Afterwards I departed to Geetha’s place to chill and do nothing for a bit, before going back to my apartment, talking to Tyler, and falling asleep.

History
On this day in 1930, construction of the Hoover Dam begins. Over the next five years, a total of 21,000 men would work ceaselessly to produce what would be the largest dam of its time, as well as one of the largest manmade structures in the world. Although the dam would take only five years to build, its construction was nearly 30 years in the making. Arthur Powell Davis, an engineer from the Bureau of Reclamation, originally had his vision for the Hoover Dam back in 1902, and his engineering report on the topic became the guiding document when plans were finally made to begin the dam in 1922. ZZZ.
News
Republican Sen. Jim DeMint said he’s “disappointed” Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has not signed the “cut, cap, balance” pledge to slash spending and balance the budget. “I am disappointed,” DeMint said Wednesday on CNN’s “American Morning.” “We have to stop spending more than we’re bringing in.” Six GOP presidential candidates have signed the pledge so far. The Minnesota congresswoman argues it doesn’t go far enough to bring down the deficit. YAY.

P.S.: SAD
