Day 275: The Vegetarian Me

October 2nd, 2011
A new me has emerged, essentially as I digivolve myself from Carnivore John Tran to Vegetarian John Tran. The challenge is on! This morning, I had the great idea to turn vegetarian as I ate a waffle with Geetha at Foodworx. When I got home, I continued to practice for my presentation on Monday as well as redo my Vietnamese homework as outlined out by my professor. After starving the whole day, it was time for my first meat-craving test. I proceeded to Jessica Daggit’s place to meet up with Adam and Sid, and all 4 of us ultimately went to Tofu House. I got some delicious vegetarian soup, and began being scared amidst warnings of iron deficiency. In the end though I settled on continuing my task to become the best vegetarian there ever was. We went to the 99 cent store afterwards, where Sid broke his 99 cent virginity. I went home, went to get flowers for Geetha, delivered them to her, and then ended the night practicing my presentation for her. The end.

History
On this day in 1985, actor Rock Hudson, 59, becomes the first major U.S. celebrity to die of complications from AIDS. Hudson’s death raised public awareness of the epidemic, which until that time had been ignored by many in the mainstream as a “gay plague.” Hudson, born Leroy Harold Scherer Jr., on November 17, 1925, in Winnetka, Illinois, was a Hollywood heartthrob whose career in movies and TV spanned nearly three decades. With leading-man good looks, Hudson starred in numerous dramas and romantic comedies in the 1950s and 60s, including Magnificent Obsession, Giant and Pillow Talk. In the 1970s, he found success on the small screen with such series as McMillan and Wife. To protect his macho image, Hudson’s off-screen life as a gay man was kept secret from the public. SAD!
News
Rep. Ron Paul expanded on his comments earlier this week critical of the Obama administration for the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born leader of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
In an op-ed piece published in the New York Daily News, Paul said “as President, I would have arrested Awlaki, brought him to the U.S., tried him and pushed for the stiffest punishment allowed by law.” Paul wrote that he believes in the rule of law and the killing of al-Awlaki is the latest in a long line of unconstitutional acts by President Obama that includes military action in Libya and health care reform. He’s 1000% right.
