Day 330: Intelligent Discussion

November 26th, 2011
Today, I learned one way in which true friendship shows its true colors: through deep meaningful converstions about random topics. With it being my last day in Garden Grove, I spent half of it at home and half of it outside. My mom made delicious eggrolls for me as I spent half my day engaging in the same routine of How I Met Your Mother, Atlas Shrugged, and web-surfing. Earle eventually came over before we departed for Fry’s and Best Buy. As Earle looked for a cheap hard drive, he decided pretty much on the spot to buy one online. We met up with Theresa and Tim at Chipotle, where I snapped a beautifully elegant picture of this day. At this Chipotle there exists a kid menu; also, the line is on the right side of store as opposed to the left. SO DIFFERENT! The four of us caught up before Theresa and Tim had to bounce. Me and Earle chilled at my house for a bit before heading on over to Starbucks to meet Thiep. While there, we had one of the best discussions ever – showing that regardless of how far we’re apart, we can still bond over trivial things. We discussed issues of our age including gay marriage, polygamy, and best of all death. Earle showed us a really motivational Steve Jobs speech about death as we made our seperate ways. I still remain so inspired by the video I have embedded it below.

I relaxed at home for an hour before John Cueller picked me up. We went all the way back to San Diego with deep conversations guiding our way there: about race/Mexicans, Mecha, affirmative action, gay marriage, the wars, & abortion.

History
President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs a bill officially establishing the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day. The tradition of celebrating the holiday on Thursday dates back to the early history of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies, when post-harvest holidays were celebrated on the weekday regularly set aside as “Lecture Day,” a midweek church meeting where topical sermons were presented. A famous Thanksgiving observance occurred in the autumn of 1621, when Plymouth governor William Bradford invited local Indians to join the Pilgrims in a three-day festival held in gratitude for the bounty of the season.
