Although I realize the quality of the show Glee has dramatically decreased over its three season arc, I still have resounding hope that the show will restore to its former glory through its wonderful emotional and memorable musical numbers. I have assembled my 10 favorite performances of the show thus far.

10. Cough Syrup (Season 3): Juxtaposing a song with a suicide is very sad, yet impactful on the audience.

9. The Scientist (Season 4 – The Break-Up). Emotionally raw and powerful.

8. Take a Bow (Season 1 – Showmance). This was the song that proved to me, in the second episode, this show had lasting potential. The emotion Rachel Berry projects on the audience through the lyrics of the song resonate to this day.

7. Home (Season 6): Just a reminder of how good the show can still be (in its later seasons), when the performances align with the plot.

6. Defying Gravity (Season 1 – Wheels): The characters had so much more emotions projected in the songs they sang in the first season. Now, the writers are just getting lazy….

5. Fix You (Season 3 – Asian F): A standout from a season where the songs haven’t been as emotionally appealing to me as Season 1’s. I love the montage of images that go with the song.

4. Make You Feel My Love (Season 5): Lea Michele is singing with real emotion given the real life context of the death of Cory Monteith.

3. Keep Holding On (Season 1 – Throwdown): This song almost made me cry. Enough said. You can tell by the emotions of the characters (mostly Quinn) paralleled the plot of the television series. All Emotions, no fancy gimmicks.

2. True Colors (Season 1 – Hairography): A true showcase of everyone’s talents. An inspirational video to close a great episode.

1. Don’t Stop Believing (Season 1 – Pilot): By far the best, and most memorable song they have sang. If only all the episodes in the series were as EPIC as the pilot.

I still have hope for the series, but I hope they will continue to produce musical performances that are more emotional, and more of something the audience can ultimately connect to.
