Every single year, I always get uneasy around February 14th, the day when I am reminded of my perpetual loneliness. Excluding the days in elementary school where it was “mandatory” for anyone bringing Valentine’s Cards or crafts to school to provide for everyone in the class, and 2011, I have for the majority of my life been Valentine-less. When Junior High hit though I soon realized when I received no Valentine’s that BAM: all that was fictitious. Girls didn’t really like me then, as I was in the most awkward stages of my life, nearly unable to communicate with members of the opposite sex. Come High School I would improve in my female relations slowly but surely. But this post isn’t really about me.

This post is about the holiday that single people either hate or laugh at. This post is about the holiday where couples feel the need to “celebrate”, as if every day they spent with each other was for some reason or another, of a “not-so-important” value. To be fair, sometimes you need an excuse to do something special with your significant other, because it’s nearly impossible to “surprise” them every single day of the relationship. Still, no matter how manufactured the holiday might be, it shares an important role in the history of the world.

I examined the Wikipedia page in an effort to “check out” how the Holiday actually came to reach it’s modern state. The holiday actually in Catholic tradition was a day to commemorate Saint Valentine, who had absolutely no connection to romance. So, in the end, I guess the holiday is pretty much an excuse to celebrate love. I’m perfectly fine with that. In fact, I have subsequently provided below my favorite television couples of time. The ability of the media & television to instill in my head when I was young that a relationship was the key to happiness was powerful and dominant. It still has subsequently made me a hopeless romantic to this present state in my life!

FAVORITE COUPLES

Love, it will not betray you,
Dismay or enslave you,
It will set you free,
But more like the man you were made to be
There is a design, an alignment, a cry
Of my heart to see
The beauty of love, is that it was made to be.
