#3: 01.29.11 (Geetha)

It appears upon looking back through four years worth of blog posts, that THIS post sticks out like a sore thumb. At the beginning of my past relationship with Geetha, we started off not telling anyone (in an effort to prevent any “drama” that might arise in the ICRA circle). As a subsequent result, my blog posts were “filtered” for roughly 2 months not giving off very explicit details. But with my graduation being in roughly 3 days, I can look back at the past and look back happily at this one day, and actually tell people what happened.

By far, if I had to point to one day in my entire UCSD career that was memorable for all the right reasons, this is it. Geetha came over in the morning, and  I did already like her by this point. She browsed my yearbook and we played some video games until Rashika finally came. We watched some 24, Bee-John came, we watched some more 24, ate at CV, and then began watching Paranormal Activity 1. Bee-John spoiled everything, we went to Tapex, and then watched the second movie in theaters. Geetha grabbed me during the movie pretending to be scared (when she really questionably wasn’t). Little did I know she was providing hints to me that were so obvious in retrospect. We went to Warren SAC, when Bee-John finally left. Rashika, Geetha, and I played Scrabble as I flirted discreetly with Geetha. At the end of the night we all went back to my apartment to continue watching the television series 24. Everyone was cold so we wrapped ourselves up in a blanket. At that point, me and Geetha held hands under the covers while watching 24. It was at that point I realized she reciprocated. With Rashika calling a CSO to escort her back to ERC, I walked Geetha back, gave her a firm hug and said my goodbyes. That night and that hug was by far the single happiest moment of my life. We realized by the next day that it was time to get into a relationship as I delivered her Sprinkles cupcakes at Geisel. From that point on, we continued hanging out with one another virtually every other day (if not, every day). To put things in perspective, Geetha got “955” points in 2011 (in terms of hanging out), while the runner up (Bee-John) got merely 299. My favorite days in the relationship remain: Day 39, Day 55, Day 211, Day 246, Day 251, Day 256, Day 280, Day 336, & Day 340.

Though the relationship ended up not working out, the memories will always be there. In my recovery stage, I’ve been on both sides of the argument. At first, I thought it was best to forget the past, because all those memories were a “waste of time”. But now I’ve realized that every single event of 2011 that I did with Geetha was worth it, because I was happy in that moment. I had a reason to devote a majority of my time to another person. I made mistakes, she made mistakes, but we’re only human. In the end, I think I can look back on this date, and all the other dates in my relationship and be proud of the memories that have transpired. To look back with solely anger and regret would be not only unhealthy, but  it would prevent my ability to grow. The memories of Geetha and our relationship will be an enduring memory of my UCSD college career. It was good while it lasted! <24
