College: The Summation

Roughly 2 years ago, I posted THIS about Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. In my then immediate quest to attain self-actualization, I was dying to attain happiness after suffering the ins and outs of a tragic summer. It wasn’t the actual events of the summer that were depressing – it was the way I reacted to them that created the eventual mess that was the first half of Sophomore Year. Little did I know happiness generally comes when you’re actually not looking for it.

At this stage in my life, I think I’m in the green when it comes to interpersonal relationships and my progress in life. That’s if you accept the pyramid in the first place though [but it remains questionable based on how many overlaps there are between the yellow, green, and blue rungs of the ladder).

Alas, this remains largely a condensed post meant to highlight the important events and subsequent emotional reactions to them that have transpired throughout the four years of my University experience; and, in an effort to not bore anyone, they will be summarized below in a nice little picture timeline. (CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO ZOOM IN). (Blue Represents Ecstasy, Green represents some happiness, and Red represents sorrow in the emotional indicator below it).

Obviously I would have liked my entire college experience to have been in blue, but just like there’s ups and downs in life, there’s ups and downs in my personal experiences at S.D. I’ve always bounced back, despite how stubborn I might have been in the stages of immediate depression. I’ll miss all the quarters at UCSD (even the bad ones), because they have ultimately shaped me into who I am as a person.
