Week 9: Moderation

I’m going to keep this week’s blog post “moderately” short by using more images and less words to describe what I have attempted. Moderation, or restraining oneself from doing too much of anything was the goal this week, and much like temperance, it required a new systematic way of looking at the world. First off, here’s what I did all week:

week9Using as much willpower as possible, I attempted to maintain a life of balance. Here’s everything I did in a pie graph with percentages of how often I partook in said activity.

Sleep obviously took the most of my time, trailing behind it “going places”, going to work, and a vast array of other activities. Nothing took over 33% of my time though, which meant I had achieved a life in balance. 2/3 of my life was spent “doing things” (either useful or not), and 1/3 of my life was spent sleeping. We can look at it in another context:

contextofhome

In the context of being at home, I spent most of my time indoors at my address in Garden Grove, spending 38% of my time away from home. This pie chart takes into account the matter of SLEEP though – but without it, it would look more like this:

As you can see things are much more even when we take the factor of sleep (which takes 1/3 of my time) out of the equation, with me being more away from home than at my physical address.

workandplay

In the context of work and play they took about roughly the same amount of my time this week. Rest/Relaxation (AKA sleep) was already established as being 33% of my time, with play edging out work only 5 percentage points.

socialinteractions

Social interactions are important to me. Without including sleep, I spent a majority of my time with others this week. I still was able to assert some independence and autonomy by being alone 43% of the time though. That in and of itself is achieving moderation in being happy with my introverted and extroverted lifestyles.

theinternet

I wanted to refrain from being online too much in my life this week. Even without sleep I only spent approximately 25% of my time  on the Internet or computer watching videos. The rest of my time was spent reading books, exercising, playing boardgames, and doing a vast array of other activities.

The End Result: An A. I moderated my life in a way that kept me balanced in several arenas including: being at home/away from home, being with others/being alone, work & play, and using the Internet/refraining from doing so.

Next Week: Cleanliness. Tolerate no Uncleanness in Body, Cloaths or Habitation.
