Week 52: The End of Project Morality

At the start of 2013, I had quite a daunting task in the form of perfecting the moral qualities outlined in Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography, the Noble Eightfold Path, and from the adventures of the book of virtues.

It started off rather impressive, me striving for the perfection of each moral quality as outlined in every calendar each week. At the same time, about halfway through I got somewhat bored with the project. Why? It occurred to me no matter what the moral of the week was supposed to be, I was still exercising past morals I had learned in the previous weeks (as well in my various life experiences). To make things more interesting I had added in the element of imitating my friends as well as re-mastering past moral qualities in the last 9 weeks of the project.

I learned many things. The greatest thing I learned however was that I should exercise all the morals I have learned every day for the rest of my life. To truly be a better person entails not only trying your best to be moral in just one arena for a week, but in all arenas for every week. On the final week of the project I attempted my best to master all my previous morals, and only partially succeeded in doing so (as seen below).

The project is over. I have learned from the project the moral qualities I am particularly strong on, and the ones I still need to work on to ultimately become a better person. At the end of the day I succeeded in improving my flaws and strengthening the particular traits that make me who I am as an individual.

Next year & for the rest of my life: Continue practicing all moral virtues all day, every day. The end.
