Day 47: Fireflies

When I was a kid I remember occasionally looking up at the night stars and making some rather elaborate wishes, including of course of accomplishing my dream to be a Power Ranger.

They could have been fireflies, but they likely weren’t. The song always strikes a chord, reminding me of my experiences as an adolescent.

My childhood encompassed various other elements, including the almost daily walk with my sister to the 99 cent liquor store. I would buy typical snacks, such as my favorite, Hot Cheetos. Today I did the same thing walking in a rather shady neighborhood to the closest 7/11 (it was only about 10 minutes away, which included the wait for the crosswalk). I managed to consume ice cream and buy a bag of Hot Munchies for my entertainment at home.

Speaking of entertainment, I revisited some childhood shows this weekend, including of course the epic “Goosebumps”, based on the R.L Stine book series. In looking for shows similar, I managed to unravel “Black Mirror”, one of the best series I have ever watched to date (the first episode was terrible though). Watch it if you get the chance – it’s like a modern day “Twilight Zone”.

I remember playing soccer in elementary school at recess. Those are my only qualifications for coaching it, so I did some “Youtube” research to enhance my skills in time for practice tomorrow. As I’m reminded of my childhood, I will prepare for the future as the Earth continues to turn…. slowly.

I’d like to make myself believe
That planet Earth turns slowly
It’s hard to say that I’d rather stay awake when I’m asleep
Because my dreams are bursting at the seams
