Here are seven things about today that I like.
1) Middle school drama. The synopsis is. Boy is with Girl. Girl kisses another boy. Boy kisses another girl to get revenge. Ask for my advice? You probably shouldn’t be with someone if a) they are unfaithful and b) you don’t trust them enough to forgive them OR you want to inflict revenge on them.
2) Useless meetings. Unproductive meetings seem to be an elaborately big part of being a teacher. At the beginning of the year, we came to the conclusion that some of the kids are underachievers and have pointed out possible solutions. By the end of the year, the kids remain underachievers.
3) The riots in Baltimore are absolutely horrible. Sadly though, I could see the potential of some of my students to engage in such immoral and destructive behavior. If you want to honor Freddie Gray’s death, stealing and looting is not the right move to call attention to police brutality. Peaceful protests are. This is only creating a dangerous image that will be repeated in the media and drive people AWAY from your cause. Rand Paul argues the riots are stemming from “the breakdown of the family structure, the lack of fathers” and the lack of a “moral code in our society.” I agree with him. I see the same kind of behavior in my students who come from broken households.
4) I’m seeing Avengers this weekend! In addition to that, here are the movies I’m most looking forward to in the upcoming months:
– Avengers: Age of Ultron
– Pitch Perfect 2
– Tomorrowland
– Jurassic World
– Inside Out
– Ant-Man
5) There are 26 days of school left. I am taking 5 of those off for sick and personal leave (mostly Fridays). That means I really only have 21 days left.
6) Tostitos Pizza Rolls. I remember eating these back in the day at UCSD, back when I made Earl’s runs every other day. Delicious! Clearly my taste buds have not evolved much 😉

7) Netflix’s Daredevil. Amazing. Way better than the Ben Affleck version.
And compared to all the great things
That would take too long to write
I probably should mention
The 7 that I like
