Day 323: Even Angels Fall

I’ve had trouble sleeping this past week, mostly due to nerves because of my formal observations from my principal that happened TODAY. The lesson didn’t go as well as I would have liked it to, so in a way I fell hard from too high of expectations. But that’s okay, because even angels fall.

And despite all of this, my kids were wonderful. So much so that I somehow convinced all 100% of them to raise their hands while the teacher was observing (regardless of if they knew the right answer or not). My observation scores ended up being pretty stellar despite my pacing not being as smooth as I had hoped. But that’s fine – lessons that look great on paper take a while to churn out and execute perfectly in the real world. Nobody’s perfect. Even Angels fall.

The lesson was so intricate that it included the following:
+ Warm up question (5 minutes)
+ Class discussion (12 minutes)
+ Pair Activity – Spreadsheet Creation (15 minutes)
+ Socrative Questions (3 minutes)
+ Costa’s Level of Questioning Activity (10 minutes)
+ Peer Evaluation Pair Sheet (7 minutes)
+ Exit Slip (3 minutes)

As you can see, it was way too rushed and was way TOO much to cram into one lesson.

The lesson was decent enough that a student in another period who usually never does work due to laziness and having a language barrier, actually did it today! I took a picture as a result, and posted it on my teacher Instagram. IMG_2324

A couple of student helpers after school bought me Chipotle to eat. It was quite delicious and an excellent dinner after a long day of stress. Thank God it’s over. Excited for 3 final days before Thanksgiving break, and 3 final weeks after that before Winter break.

You will fly and you will crawl.
God knows even angels fall.
No such thing as you’ve lost it all.
God knows even angels fall.
