Today required much effort, as the sun pushed us to our limits mostly on the outskirts of Switzerland as we ventured towards our last country in Europe – Italy.
The morning excited me with its daily breakfast buffet, this time slightly disappointing me with of course a boiled egg that was cooked unevenly. As you can see in the picture below, I could have well been poisoned had I chosen to eat that said food. 1 Star.
That being said, I was optimistic for the rest of the day as we navigated downwards away from Switzerland, marveling at the sights of the mountains, the cliffs, the rocks, and the general scenes of nature. The bus driver was kind enough to even stop to allow us to take several pictures. 3 Stars.
We made another pit stop at a grocery store in order to get food for a picnic. Upon reaching our next destination (the one we spent the majority of our time at), Lake Lugano, a tragic accident happened almost destroying a young girl’s foot, which could have potentially damaged her ability to walk. We fixed it up a bit before moving on, having a picnic (eating sandwiches, drinking wine), and enjoying the view. 3 Stars.
We then went to the shores of Lake Lugano where we enjoyed the beach. It was a rather majestic view which would have given it 3 stars, but since I can’t swim, I will have to lower it to a 2-star rating.
Later, I saw mother ugly duckling help fix her daughter’s foot (*Crystal Meth) through the power of love. Because love trumps hate, I will have to give their relationship a 5-star rating.
We left Lugano to go to our next Lake – Lake Como. By that point though, I imagined we were all “laked” out and rather tired, so we just ate Gelato and gently walked around. 3 Stars.
And that brings us to the dinner provided by Explorica by the end of the night. It was just terrible. I would give you more information, but I had enough complaints to ultimately CREATE a TripAdvisor account just to complain. And complain I did. I’m waiting for the review to get approved though, which it might not. See attached review below. The restaurant was named Mercalli 22.
I went on an Explorica trip here, and the food was absolutely atrocious.
The appetizer was risotto, which was completely dry and flavorless.
The main course was pork, mushrooms, and salad, which tasted like diarrhea out of a can of worms.
The dessert tasted like a** and was flavorless.
After one complaint, they gave us a pizza to compensate which tasted decent. Unfortunately by that point, the taste of crap was not removed from my mouth.
I’m not so sure why there are so many good reviews of this place. Some of the other people that ate here must have been high on crack cocaine or something.
Ultimately. 0 Stars for the meal.
The day was a mixed bag overall, but I’d say the departure from Switzerland into Italy was rather smooth.
