Day 3: The Rocking Horse Winner

The Rocking Horse Winner is a failure in many respects. Because of his mother’s greed, the main character in the story rocks the magical horse too hard and too much, giving him the special ability to predict the winner of the horse races. As a tragic result, he DIES.

Much in the same way, I encountered many failures today, but was able to overcome them unlike the protagonist in the story.

#Failure #1: I’ve been putting off doing my Master’s essay for a while now, but I pushed myself to do so by simultaneously watching Youtube videos while doing it. I’m basically done, minus a couple of revisions.

#Failure#2: We went to South Coast Plaza to help my sister get shoes for her wedding. No matter where we looked, we failed. No solution there.

#Failure#3: We planned to go to The O.C. fair today in an effort to have some fun in the sun. We failed to find free parking at OCC College, and subsequently decided to go eat instead.

#Failure#4: We overate at Ritter’s. The service was also bad. First, they didn’t give us enough seats. Secondly, they failed to give my brother-in-law his drink and food. Thirdly, they almost lost his credit card. Just terrible. 1 star. Food was good though, but we ended up overeating. Subsequently, I needed to placate my stomach by going to the gym again.

#Failure#5: We went to Planet Fitness in Anaheim, but it closes at 7PM. As a result, we were forced to go to the Buena Park location instead. Here’s the conversation I had with the Buena Park location via phone

Me: What are your hours?

Gym: What?

Me: When are you open till?

Gym: We are open 24 hours.

Me: OH, so you’re open FOREVER THEN!? *Hangs up*

I’d like to think, since I went to the gym twice today, that I’m much like the boy in the Rocking Horse Winner, except for the ironic fact that he turned out to be quite a loser, so much so that he ended up dead. Meanwhile, I’m still alive, although I will plan to eat much healthier next year, and gamble much less.
