Day 10: The Bet

The Bet is a pretty dumb short story where someone makes a bet that they can stay in solitary confinement for 15 years. In return, they get 2 million dollars. By the end of the story, the person is so satisfied with his life that he doesn’t even care about the money. Ironically enough, the other guy wouldn’t have been able to afford paying him and was about to kill in the process.

Anyway, games like those remind me of the games I often play with my siblings and friends. Today, I played a few, both at home, and at my niece’s birthday party.

Game #1: Settlers of Catan. After getting so much needed boba, it was time to play the Settlers of Catan, something I haven’t played in a while. I attempted to win with a development card strategy, but ultimately failed in the process, losing “the bet”.

Afterwards we went to my niece’s birthday party, where I was able to redeem myself by winning several games of Uno (High School Musical edition) followed by Egyptian War. It’s nice to have good reflexes and be able to slap so quickly. We also had some BBQ while we were there, sang happy birthday, and all that good stuff.

There will be many more birthday parties to come in the foreseeable future, I imagine. I will surely bet on that. I’m back in Los Angeles now for some “Spring Cleaning”, and for the start of the school year (unofficially) tomorrow.
