Day 1: 1990-1991

For the next 26 days, I will be providing insights into every single year of my life, from birth (1990) to the present (2017).

We start with 1990. I was born in Song Be, Vietnam, descendants of two Asian parents specifically. For all you geography buffs out, that’s located in the South (picture below):

I obviously don’t remember anything. I imagine there was lots of dirt around, and unsanitary living conditions. I imagine I did mostly what most babies do from age 1 to age 2: eat, sleep, poop, and cry. Here’s a copy of my birth certificate:

It’s not fake. I was born with an Asian name and wasn’t naturalized till much later. I should note that I was the last person born in my family, my siblings listed below:

  1. Thu Tran: Oldest
  2. Thao Tran: Second Oldest
  3. Dung Tran (later re-named Jackie): Middle boy
  4. Tu Tran (later re-named Jenny): Middle girl
  5. Thanh Tran (later re-named Annie): Second Youngest

And then there’s me, the baby, and the obvious favorite of the family.

Meanwhile, in America, the number one movie in 1990 was Ghost, and 1991 was Terminator 2: Judgment Days, both great movies if I must say so myself. The number one song? Nothing compares to You in 1990, meh. And everything I do, I do it for you, in 1991, which I would argue is a good song.
