I wished the school year started in January and ended in December. That would certainly make talking about the rest of my life easier, but oh well. Technically I started pre-school in ’94 (previous post) and ended it in ’95, starting Kindergarten immediately afterwards.

Pre-School was a horrendous experience. From what people have told me, I was most likely a terrible student, and cried all the time. I’m sure I had attachment issues and wanted to stay with my mom rather than go to school. I also happened to meet my former “best friend” from elementary school that year. Danny. Or whatever his name was. Here’s a picture of me “graduating” pre-school.

That resting face will haunt me for the rest of my life, as I continue to take pictures in the future angrily and upset.

I should mention my local neighborhood while I’m posting about this. The two locales me and family (and later just me and my sister when I got older) visited was the 99 cent store nearby our house, as well as the Indoor Swapmeet. The map below shows how we got from place to place via walking.

It was fun. We often got Mexican candy, or hot cheetos every time we went to the 99 Cent store. Or Toy guns. Or those things you throw on the ground that make noise. Fun stuff. I should mention that we also went to our neighbor’s house sometimes to buy snacks there. I’m positive they didn’t have a license to sell food, but it was super convenient, and I doubt they poisoned anything, so it all worked out in the end. Damn government overreach.

The top movie in 1995 was also the first Pixar movie, Toy Story. I remember going over to a friend/neighbor’s house and watching that movie on VHS specifically (although, it wasn’t probably that year). The top song was “Gangster’s Paradise”. I especially remember that song from one of my favorite movies, Dangerous Minds, which used to play on the WB all the time. Great movie. Certainly inspired me to become a teacher, as unrealistic as it was.
