2004 was much like 2003, being the second year of middle school. At this point, I started getting into the groove of things. I was always so quiet in class, but now I had moved up in the world by having Honors English. That transition from a regular class into an Honors class might have just saved my life, because I was now surrounded by peers that I could more easily relate to. This was the year I also started struggling in math, ending my middle school career with my only B in some math class. Annoying! This was the year I started thoroughly enjoying history, my 8th grade history teacher making me excited to learn about…. AMERICUHHH!

I remember my friends playing a trick on me this year saying I had to go to the office to get a “graduation form” to fill out. I went to the office and asked, embarrassingly. Not being able to take a joke at the time, I was mad at my friends for about a month.

Anyway, this was also the year my crush on the musical sensation JoJo started. I listened to her music and then somehow eventually became number one on her fansite. I eventually made 1000 email addresses (from americanjohn001@yahoo.com to americanjohn999@yahoo.com, referring myself a billion times to get to number one on her fansite. Achievement unlocked!

Even though I started going to friend’s houses and them going to mine, I still wasn’t that social. My parents didn’t have that much money, so it wasn’t like we were going to get to enjoy the perks of living as much as we wanted to. Still, it was fun staying inside, watching television, playing boardgames, and enjoying the simple things in life. As bored as I was sometimes on the weekends, I still thoroughly enjoyed the house I lived in. I also remember having a treehouse in the backyard where I would oftentimes just sit, and eat Hot Cheetos in. Those were the days.

The number one movie of 2004 was Shrek 2. I think the first Shrek was the only good movie to be honest. The number song of the year was Outkast’s “Hey Ya”, and though I think the song was quite annoying at the time, I find the lyrics to be quite deep and depressing on a re-examination.
