Day 24: Mr. Hanna

I’ve gone on long enough without talking about one of my biggest inspirations of all in teaching, Mr. Nathaniel Hanna. Even though we worked together for only about 3 months, he really was a big help to me in terms of emotional support. He was a welcoming person, he created the concept of “book clubs” really, and he was mistreated by our lethal department chair.

I’ll be honest in admitting how unknowledgeable we were at first glance, but we really did try our best to lesson plan, incorporate technology in our classes, and adapt our first year at Rise. Though things didn’t always work, I’m glad I had him as my Tech lead for a limited amount of time.

His son is just like him. I’ll never forget the time when I broke the Acting Principal’s valuable souvenir because I stared at his eyes in a circle. How terrible. I miss him dearly, but he’s doing much better at his new school.

I’m glad we still keep in touch, because he always had a good rapport with not only the students, but everyone at Rise. What a wonderful man.
