My principal made the mistake of sending me and a couple of other teachers to San Diego this week for the CCSA Conference (California Charter Schools Association). Why was it a mistake? Because we obviously used and abused our privileges in a variety of ways:
- Eating at Phil’s BBQ. Quite possibly the whole highlight of the trip, this set the bar too high for the rest of the conference to possibly surpass.

- Free Happy Hour just meant free drinks for 2 hours, which were obviously abused without tip. Bathroom was abused too and had to be plunged. Hotel too was abused as I got thirsty and drank their water in the middle of the night.
- The sessions were okay, but I think they were more geared towards administrative staff. It was nice going around the exhibit hall and collecting free items though. I ended up getting 3 bags worth of goodies, plus new history textbooks. I don’t think the picture does it justice, but I have literally hundreds of pens now, and other random goodies. I felt like a kid in a candy store, or a John Tran in Phil’s BBQ.

- At the end of the day, I came back to school to grade some essays and was disappointed by how little work they did today. Oh well, I guess I must now yell at them tomorrow and hold them all after school before Spring Break officially starts.
