Teacher Appreciation Week is next week, and I’m hoping my students really start to cultivate a personality of thanking their teachers. For Builder’s Club we helped decorate plants to deliver to all the teachers on campus, resulting in some pretty and some not so pretty indoor plants.

That being said, society as a whole needs to move towards a direction of not only appreciating teachers, but all people in life. Everyone, as a contributing member of society, should be appreciated for their distinctive additions to their respective sectors.
Here’s some ways we can better appreciate people:
- Do small things for people you care about. Actions speak louder than words, so show don’t tell.
- Take notice of the “invisible” people we really should appreciate more. This includes people that deal with the maintenance sector of any enterprise we go to – whether it is a janitor at my middle school, any employees that help to clean up in a restaurant, etc.
- Keep in touch with everyone that has had an impact in my life. I, too, have lost contact of many people who were once important in my life, and I’m hoping at some point I can rekindle the flame of those relationships to truly appreciate their contributions.
Appreciating people will ultimately make the people around you better people (if you set a good example), and reduce suicides like those of Hannah Baker’s. Good luck people!
