Milestones are important in life. They make it so that at the end of the day our life seems to have a sense of purpose. The intertwining of seemingly “random” events in life connect together to make something ultimately beautiful.
Some milestones in my life include
- Being born
- Being beat up by Mexicans in 4th grade (life lesson: perseverance)
- First rejection (6th grade)
- First social interaction with the opposite gender (9th grade)
- Being President of something (VOC – 11th grade)
- Winter Formal King (12th grade)
- First Girlfriend (12th grade)
- First Teaching Job (2014)
- Phil’s BBQ Trip #100 (2014)

- Marriage, TBD
- Children, TBD
- Divorce, TBD
- Death, TBD
That brings us to the most recent milestone, which was my 150th trip to Phil’s BBQ. For this specific event, I didn’t rent out the event center as I did during trip 100. Instead, I emailed Phil’s BBQ and they happily complied with my request for them to organize the event for me.
It was great to see a nice combination of my high school friends, college friends, Anime Expo buddies, and co-workers come together to celebrate a marvelous occasion. Much like a wedding, I didn’t have much time to talk to everyone individually (about 5 minutes per person on average). And yet, I am still grateful that they all came to celebrate with me.

I am truly blessed to have met such amazing people in my life, and like my speech said, every time I take a bite into Phil’s BBQ, I’ll be thinking of all the people I’ve ever eaten there with.
To new memories and beyond. We’ll just have to see what Trip #200 will entail.
