Day 3: Earle Tabula’s Night Hike

The best conversations can spark in the middle of seamlessly random activities, like hikes. I find pillow talk (conversations right before bedtime) the best possible triggers for mind inducing and potentially life-changing conversations.

In the midst of a night hike in La Puente, the conversations moved from topic to topic quickly, but the general atmosphere was relaxed as we watched the waves roll up on the beach intertwined with the night sky.

One particular conversation of interest revolved around how many of our former teachers were that great. An interesting anecdote was brought up where Earle was brought to the Vice Principal’s office one day (he thought he got in trouble), when in fact they solicited his help to create Rancho’s 50th anniversary website… which he did for free. As we grow up, we quickly realize that teachers were people too, and I only begin to wonder how many of them were happy in their existence on this planet. Here’s to hoping we have more engaging conversations during night hikes in the future.
