Sometimes in life, things take a detour, and you go a different route than you were expecting to go, either by choice, or because of circumstances beyond your immediate control.

My friend Timothy Mai has wanted to be a doctor for a long time. He’s been pursuing by virtue medical school and the prequel struggles that come with it, whether it be volunteering in hospitals or preparing for terrible MCAT tests. That being said, in getting older, he realized that it just wasn’t the right path as he was getting older and running out of time. Is 4 years of medical school plus another 4 years of residency worth it? Perhaps not. And so, he is now taking a new path in life, headed directly towards engineering. I wish him luck in his endeavors as he pursues his second Bachelor’s and works for a future big Tech company in SF.
As life continues for both of us, we realize that sometimes life hands you difficult cards, but it’s up to you to overcome the challenges that come with it.
Sometimes the safe path isn’t always the right path, and in moving forward you just need to shoot for what you want in life, and see where it takes you.
The universe has a funny way of working things out, and I have no doubt that both Timothy and I will eventually achieve our dreams, wherever the path of life might lead us.
