Howard Nguyen and I have been friends since the beginning of high school. That goes back all the way to 2004, roughly 15 years ago. We both agree that friendships are oftentimes built out of convenience, and that true friendships can overcome the obstacles of time and space. I would largely agree with his notion that good friendships are the ones you can pick up after spending a long time apart.
As he finishes his final year of medical school, I wish him luck in all his endeavors as he gets into the residency of his dreams. I hope he continues to live a life somehow deplete of loneliness, and not too saddened over potential mistakes he has made in high school or college. Regardless of these facts, his emotional maturity has grown him into the man he is today – and he is able to “fake” being an adult much better than I ever was capable of. Good luck to my future doctor who will cure me of heart disease in the future.
