Day 69: Amul Shah’s Dominion Strategy

Today, I played with Amul and a couple of friends Dominion about 7 times. Though he won all six of the initial games, I won the only game that counted (the last one).

Amul seems to be able to devise a unique strategy to each game depending on the cards pre-selected for play. Because the game is a deck-building game and he has a billion expansion packs, we got the chance to play with very varied level of cards. His strategy would always differ depending on the set of cards we received.

In the end, it didn’t really matter whether we played in private or public – we got the enjoyment out of reliving our college experience, where we endured playing many games in Warren College.

That being said, the game of Dominion is pretty reflective of real life. Though life may hand you different starting hands, it is up to you to choose your path in life by making lots of decisions that will forever shape your future. “Building your deck” so to speak is analogous to choosing your fate in life, whether it be through college, trade school, homelessness, or military endeavors. As Amul continues being an actuary for the next couple of years, I wish him luck in San Diego even if he can never fully enjoy Phil’s BBQ as a vegetarian.
