The first dance at a wedding is a significant and memorable event for any couple. It symbolizes the start of a new chapter in their lives together and sets the tone for their future relationship. After much consideration, Katherine and I selected “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur as our first dance song. We rehearsed a few times, and her back even hurt a few times because I did the dip wrong.

On the day of the wedding, we were both overwhelmed with emotion and excitement, and our nerves got the better of us. We were also a little out of it by the time the dancing started, so we essentially just “winged” it, incorporating as much of what we remembered from the practice as possible. Of course we made sure to include my much needed backwards dab as part of the dance routine, and to end the entire thing with a much needed dip.

Our first dance was a reflection of our relationship, one that we hope to maintain throughout our lives. We believe in keeping things light-hearted, humorous, and laid-back. However, as much as we cherish our time together, we also acknowledge the inevitable end of our journey on this earth. Here’s hoping I die first because I refuse to be the widow in this relationship!
