Being that I basically end up making a post about SunGod every year, I figured it was an appropriate time as ever to summarize my experiences in my “last” ever SunGod. Before I began though, I certainly hope the pattern doesn’t continue in relation to the people I go to the festival with. Every year, I have gone with basically a different group – but subsequently thereafter, I lost friendships and relationships along the way with distinctive groups of people. [Freshman year: Ann Bui/Minju] [Sophomore Year: Lauren/Matt] [Junior Year: Geetha].
The day’s experiences began with a short adventure at my place as Vaibhav, Sid, Joe, and Noel came over for some drinks. We eventually bused to campus (minus Vaibhav), meeting Monica at the Muir apartments. Henry dropped by and we subsequently attained pizza at the half dome lounge from Ariana and the Muir Commuter Organization (YAY!). We then proceeded to Dylan’s place shortly thereafter to chill some more. [Which required lots of talking and lounging around, inevitably culminating in the taking of this picture]: (Lillian, Thomas, Henry, Julia, Kristy, Scott, Kyle, Dylan, Daniel, etc.).

Eventually we left for Sungod (roughly around 3 PM), where conveniently enough I bumped into Amul on the way walking up to Rimac Field. We reunited and then took a picture inside the festival. He decided to come down all the way from Riverside at the last minute (upon his ability to capture a $20 ticket).

From that point on, we all moved to the “performance tent” where we saw some slightly better than average performances; then we moved onto the subsequent fighting tents, where Henry crushed Kristy and I. BOO 🙁

Amul left. Henry and I shortly departed for Clifford’s place thereafter to chillax for a bit. I ran into Vaibhav yet again and lost Adam’s SunGod sunglasses before going back to SunGod to eat an appropriate Thai Pad Chicken Dinner (even though it sadly had no chicken in it). I ran into Amul again, we saw BeeJohn’s interesting N-Motion performance and then witnessed the intelligent rapper Macklemore (even though he didn’t sing American. SAD. AND WE DANCED…
Ironically enough, I bumped into Victoria’s freshman apartment (Hiep, Natesa, Jenny), and we snapped a picture just like I did roughly THREE YEARS AGO my freshman year.

In the end I walked back to the performance tent for a bit to rejoin Dylan’s group to watch some really bad comedian speak. While there, I ran into my freshman SunGod buddy Ann. We talked, and reunited for a bit, snapping a picture reminscent of my freshman year of college. I truly do miss hanging out with her, but based on the way college has been going, people are constantly coming in and out of your lives with really no notice at all. Sadly enough, the same said reunions are most likely not going to occur with the people I went with my sophomore and junior years. Alas, with the ending of one adventure comes the beginning of others.

I left the tent alone to shove my way into the front of the crowd near Chiddy Bang. After running into Sid, Joe, and Noel for a bit I pushed my way to the correct side (all the way on the left) to rejoin Amul all the way in the front. From that point on, we listened to the entire Silversun Pickups performance (as my legs ached the entire time).

In the end, I probably think this year’s SunGod was super exciting (first time I actively pre-gamed), but there’s always room for improvement. Who knows? Maybe I’ll ever come back next year.
In terms of performances though my favorite year remains listed in order from best to worse: Sophomore > Junior > Freshman > Senior. The company I spent time with though remains slightly harder to compare based on the subsequent “shifts” in friend populations throughout my four years of college. In the end I remain blessed by my experiences in every UCSD’s student favorite time of the year: SunGod. With my final SunGod comes a slight (but still not a sad) realization that my college adventures are slowly dwindling down.
This sun god lineup was not as good as the last few years. But I hope everyone still had fun. 14 shots huh? Crazy.
Glad you had fun haha! Do you remember running into me? haha
Yes
IM SO BUMMED I DIDNT SEE YOU! I was in the right front for Chiddy Bang too!!!! I eventually left after 40 minutes due to the weed and pushing T.T
